The Yahara River is located in South-central Wisconsin and drains a watershed the size of 536 square miles. It links the chain of lakes of which the Capital of Wisconsin, Madison, was built around. The river is 62 miles long and empties into the Rock River near Janesville, WI.
The chain of lakes surrounding Madison begins with Lake Mendota and then is channelized through the isthmus and then flows through Lake Monona, Lake Waubesa, and Lake Kegonosa. The watershed area is primarily farmland and urban settings so nutrient overloading issues are prevalent in the watershed.
